One of the first times I met Ben’s dad, I was treated to the experience of making this …delicacy? If you’ve never had “Swede”, it’s a soft sausage (wanky) that is meant to be spread over bread (I’ll let the Schifskys battle it out over whether condiments are appropriate, as I prefer plain on buttered bread). I hope that someday soon we can continue this tradition with our own kids, but for now, we have these two new additions to our growing collection :). Let’s see what types of ornaments Ben likes: Once my brother and I each had live-in significant others, they were allowed in on the Strelow tree. My Mickey/Pooh phase (when I was too old for either):Īlways a soft spot for the teeny tiny ones: The early years (had a thing for rodents?): I took some pictures this year of my collection. Last year, my parents passed our ornaments off to us, so I guess now they’re not just empty nesting but also empty treeing. Then we’d each put our own ornaments on the tree every year, with our newest ones getting top real estate. My dad would write our name and the year on every single one (the man can write freakishly small). I’m not entirely sure at what age we were allowed to pick out our own, but it was probably pretty young. Every year, without fail, my parents took us to the Hallmark store to pick out a Hallmark Keepsake ornament (no boring shiny balls on our tree). I never really considered any Strelow family holiday activities as “traditions” in the… traditional (heh heh)… sense. It’s been awhile! I guess life has been too boring to post anything? Oooor, I’m lazy? Whichever is more in line with your perception of me… I just had a few pictures that related to some holiday traditions and figured I’d share in the spirit of Christmas Eve.
